Challenges in the Future of Restorative Youth Justice in Ireland: Minimising Intervention, Maximising Participation

While restorative approaches encompass a small proportion of youth justice practices in Ireland, the new Youth Justice Strategy (2021–2027) aims to include more victims justice, expand family conferencing and train professionals practices. This article discusses legal, policy practice contexts these developments, considering how Ireland has defined, used researched date. It situates ongoing efforts meet victims’ children’s needs, change criminal cultures, international criminological legal literature on minimum intervention child participation, analysing possibilities challenges facing Ireland.
